Greetings

It was quite an honor to be chosen as the next superintendent of Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District. I have spent the last 24 years of my life as an educator with the Escanaba Area Public Schools and it felt strange to clean out my office and move to DSISD on July 1. Now that I have been in my new role for the past two months, I see how well my experiences in Escanaba have prepared me to lead DSISD.

I graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1991. I was a high school math teacher in Escanaba for five years before becoming the district's first technology coordinator in 1996.  I also held the positions of high school athletic director, elementary principal and high school principal over the next 19 years. During that time I completed a masters degree in educational administration from Northern Michigan University.

My career in Escanaba exposed me to the needs of students and teachers at all levels from pre-school through 12th grade. I have learned the importance of listening to my community, developing data-based goals and supporting my staff in the implementation of those goals. One of the proudest accomplishments of my career was being named the 2015 Michigan High School Principal of the Year by the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals. This award would never have happened without the excellent team at Escanaba High School. They put students' needs first which is my top core belief as I start my career at DSISD.

On a personal note, I grew up in Gladstone and married my high school sweetheart, Becki. We live in Escanaba and have three children.

My sons, Ryan (red shirt) and Chad, are both in college. Ryan is a 4th year mechanical engineering student at Michigan Tech while Chad is just starting his 1st year at the University of Michigan in computer science. My daughter Macy is in 8th grade at Escanaba Junior High. We feel very blessed to live in the upper peninsula of Michigan and are proud to call ourselves Yoopers. It was a great experience growing up in the UP for Becki and I. We believe our children have also enjoyed a fun childhood in the UP while getting an outstanding education in our local schools.

As previously stated, my diverse background combined with my strong local connections have positioned me well to lead the Delta-Schoolcraft ISD. I am blessed with the best administrative job in education and look forward to serving Delta and Schoolcraft County students, parents and educators for years to come.
